So that that's been kind of part of my learning is like, "How do we create a system that we're in a much better place six months from now and a much better place 12 months and a much better place three years from now that we've shown change in metrics and results and everything like that. But this is literally a business based on humans and psychology and emotion and how we feel every day. Were you looking at other franchises that have done this before, or were you looking at other business models and merging some version thereof? Peter Feigin: Yeah, I don't know if it's still risk. But it's also, listen like I wish, I have patience for nothing, and I think what I'm learning and trying to get a grip of is like how do we chip away over every issue of social justice. I understood what a call to action was. And more importantly, kind of like building such a strong infrastructure with other people. Number one, growth is so exponentially outside the us, which is like really interesting for NBA basketball, for participation, for media, for social consumption. Every Wednesday, Dan Feigin, now the director of Trevors Upper School on the Upper East Side, sends a mass email to determine who will be playing that weekend. After college, Dan Feigin got a job at Trevor teaching English and coaching sports, which meant one important thing: He had access to a gymnasium in New York City, where indoor hoops are more precious than parking spaces. We happen to have like the largest kitchen in the state of Wisconsin. Ive had so much fun and been in sports entertainment and aviation and in different things and its all been about every job Ive had incredibly, Ive said like, oh my God, could you imagine, like Ive died and gone to heaven. I heard or to make the statement, are you the employee of the month? Peter: Well, I made one of the biggest mistakes ever to begin with. But, boy, you talk about how you go to sleep like the night, a night in March, in the middle of March last year thinking like, "Oh, my God. Im so proud and honored to have this conversation with you today, and thank you for your generosity of your time. I had this tendency, which I still do, to get so excited and loud. Michael Red: So, I did some research and so, the sources got back to me. I think it starts with human capital, but it really starts with road mapping out each little thing. How do we keep driving? "We didn't have much time," he says. Michael Red: The mental health and wellness of the players, right? She is like, "We're in this together." Well, Peter, this has been more than a delight. It was kind of like take a weekend and moonlight into a fun job. Just shut up for 15 seconds. I'm like, "I don't know. Hes with us today. That automatically and having him sign for the next five years, that gives you this springboard that we think. How do we attack every day with how can we resource everybody who works here to be able to do their job very well. And we come from a city that's the urban city is 40% African American and probably 20% Hispanic, right? You're certainly allowed to have fun, because we have fun. You sound super excited about the future. And because Blake was in our backyard, like literally in Kenosha, which as you know is so close, it became personal. Michael Red: Talk about the process of redeveloping downtown and one who's so in love with Milwaukee and it's like a second home to me, living there for so many years. John: Whos raising their hand saying Dad, were all in with you. How does this work? Let me just throw this out there. Peter Feigin: I'm not a good example of life balance, because I kind of blend them in such a big way that my kids, my brothers, my mother, my wife, they're all a part of it. He captained. I think, listen, you could certainly have success with superpower and great skill and everything, but to have peopleYou mentioned at the beginning of the show, how in a small market, do you keep consistency? And everyone was thrilled when Keefe showed up. But now, going into the future, obviously in the present now, we got fans at the games now, which I know is massive for the organization. We stopped operating. I need socks and I know we're not making them. He's also been quoted as saying he wants to play for the Bucks "forever" and he does not know if he could be "the same player" in a "flashy city." The future for the Bucks, championship, championship, championship, and obviously getting fans back at the games. And that's what we try to do. And it was a fantasy. When he called Milwaukee "the most segregated, racist place I've ever experience in my life" in 2016, Feigin was just being a straight shooter intent on improving the neighborhood. Peter: professionalized on a revenue basis, so yeah. The one thing that's been impressive for me, being a part of the family, is seeing how you all embrace the city. We've got one of the global sports stars in the world. How do we sit here and I think like, how could the Millwaukee Bucks not be, not Americas team, but Globals team. While previous owner Herb Kohl, the five-term U.S. senator from Wisconsin, stood in high regard in Milwaukee, the franchise had begun to slip. How do we get the people to try and start the journey to professionalize and really build a gold standard operation. The good news is it's pretty small shop. So first of all, the bubble was kind of like so exciting, surreal, and awesome. Peter Feigin: They're like, "Peter, don't double think anything. That was, Peter: That was it. It was just such a big deal. Here in a million person city and your ability to affect change, your platform, your ability to really make a difference is so incredible. It was one of these terrible times where, when youre in pro sport, you book all your revenue, you do all your dirty business before tip-off and if they didnt have somebody to run the business in July, it wouldve been a disaster and they were stuck with me and thats my road to success. Are they all going to be important or do you see one heavier leaning heavier than other, in terms of future revenue opportunities that are credible and consistent? Peter: it worked in such a great way for me and with a magic wand really evolved into one of the most incredible jobs ever. Let them know they're part of the family.
